The team had a 1.76 ERA, while the leagues average was 2.63.

The 1906 Chicago Cubs won 116 games, tied for the most wins in a single season in baseball history. The Cubs scored 80 more runs than any other team in the league. Their pitching was also very outstanding though, with a team staff ERA of 1.76, no team could touch there pitchers. Only one pitcher in the whole league, Pittsburgh's Vic Willis with a 1.73 ERA, had a lower ERA than Chicago's staff! Remarkable I'd say.
Their offense wasn't too bad either. This team mostly known for the famous double play team of shortstop Joe Tinker, second baseman Johnny Evers, and first baseman Frank Chance (also the manager). Chance, catcher Johnny Kling, and third baseman Harry Steinfeldt all topped the .300 mark. Steinfeldt also led the NL in hits, ranked second in average, and tied for the lead in RBIs.
Although outscoring their opponents 705-381 en route to a 20 game lead over the National League's second best team. They were a confident team, maybe too confident. As they met the other Chicago team in baseballs third World Series. The White Sox, also known as "The Hitless Wonders" because of their team batting average of just .230, the second lowest mark in baseball. They brought probably the biggest upset in post-season history, the Cubs lost the World Series four games to two.
The Cubs although, went on to win pennants in 1907 and 1908, and were victorious in both World Series vs. the Detroit Tigers.
